Activated alumina is the technical name associated with appropriately dehydrated aluminum hydroxide and therefore defined as "activated". This product comes in white beads and is used for various applications.

It is a hygroscopic and dehydrating product in general, however it is widely used in specific sectors especially in the treatment and purification of oxygen as it is able to absorb contaminating gases such as carbon dioxide, natural gas and even lubricating oils and similar impurities present in suspension in oxygen. Activated alumina is also used in the chemical industry in column chromatography.
